Stornoway
Stornoway is by far the largest settlement in the Western Isles. The harbour remains busy with freight, ferry and leisure traffic, and home to a significant fishing fleet. A number of the streets in the centre are pedestrianised providing good access to an interesting range of shops pleasantly different from the usual outlets colonising most UK High Streets. There are two supermarkets: Co-op & Tesco.  Tesco will deliver around the island but do book well ahead!

Local Food

Comunn Eachdraidh Uig (Community Centre)

If you fancy a snack lunch locally, why not try the Community Centre? The heart of our local community, you can enjoy freshly prepared sandwiches, soups, delicious cakes and chat with some of the locals or other tourists. Whilst there you can also visit the Uig museum and heritage centre for more information on the local area.

The Edge Cafe

The newest addition to Uig, and just up the road from SEAcroft, is The Edge Cafe.  This is also the place to go if you want to learn more about the work of the Gallan Head Community Trust.  Serving food and drinks every day except Tuesday and Saturday from 12 - 5pm (longer hours in the summer months).  See the Facebook page for more details.

Thinking of moving to the Outer Hebrides?

These islands on the edge are an amazing place to live.  There are challenges but the way of life, community and landscape are incredible!  We moved here in 2006 and our son Elliot is Hebridean born and bred!  We'd be happy to talk to you about what it is like to live here, the things you might consider and how to make the move.

The 'Outer Hebrides Relocation Services' can offer help and advice with such a move - www.ohrs.co.uk.
