The Edge Cafe
The newest addition to Uig, and just up the road from SEAcroft, is The Edge Cafe. This is also the place to go if you want to learn more about the work of the Gallan Head Community Trust. Serving food and drinks every day except Tuesday and Saturday from 12 - 5pm (longer hours in the summer months). See the Facebook page for more details.
Not strictly food, but our local whisky distillery. Abhainn Dearg (meaning Red River) is the first legal distillery in the Outer Hebrides and they are making history! Their single malt is single cask, distilled and bottled by hand in Uig. Having released their first single malt at three years, they are now waiting for our Ten Year Old to mature, ready in 2018. They are open from 11am - 1pm (Closed for lunch 1pm to 2pm) 2pm - 4pm Monday to Saturday. Tour and tasting every half hour - £5 per person.
Thinking of moving to the Outer Hebrides?
These islands on the edge are an amazing place to live. There are challenges but the way of life, community and landscape are incredible! We moved here in 2006 and our son Elliot is Hebridean born and bred! We'd be happy to talk to you about what it is like to live here, the things you might consider and how to make the move.
The 'Outer Hebrides Relocation Services' can offer help and advice with such a move - www.ohrs.co.uk.
