Beautiful, Unspoilt Beaches
With 24 sandy beaches in the area ranging in size from the extensive Uig Sands, to the white tropical sands of Reef, the crashing waves at Mangersta, surfers delight at Cliff beach and the many other hidden secret gems, a visitor to Uig is spoilt for choice.
With ruins and artefacts ranging from the Bronze Age Callanish Stones, the Vikings and their 12th century chessmen, to the blackhouses occupied as recently as 1976...Lewis & Harris has a wealth of history to share.
Harris Tweed is still woven in peoples sheds on traditional looms. There is a wealth of local art inspired by this amazing island. The Hebridean Celtic Festival in July attracts a wonderful range of artists to Lews Castle for a week of music. The award winning television series 'Katie Morag' was filmed on location in Uig and Lewis.
